“Jonny’s Flight” was formed in memory of Jonathan Myles Tomasello. Jonny, a student, and resident in Adams County, PA, was a true patriot who aspired to one day join the ranks of our finest in uniform. Jonny served in the Young Marines organization where he dedicated much time to serving his community. He was an athlete, participating in track, cross country, and even wrestling. Jonny faced some challenges in his short life. As a little patriot he was diagnosed with Autism. This posed many challenges, but with hard work and his dedication he overcame many of them. Fast forward to becoming a teenager, Jonny wanted to join the military so badly he withdrew from his IEP at the start of 9th grade (2023). He didn’t want anything to hinder his path forward to becoming an American Hero. Unfortunately, greater challenges awaited this young man. As Jonny entered his freshman year of high school (2023) the bullying became unhinged and relentless. The schools’ anti-bullying policies weren’t enough to stop it. In December of 2023, those challenges took their toll.
In July 2024, we created Jonny’s Flight, a nonprofit organization, to not only honor this great young man but to not allow this tragedy to be in vain. Jonny left behind a legacy of kindness, love, loyalty, and talent in a world full of the opposite. Our organization is committed to being a driving force for legislative action, community resources, and a beacon of hope to all those who are walking through similar challenges.
Jonny will not realize his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, but in his memory, we will be providing scholarships to deserving youth to obtain a pilot’s license. The approximate cost of flight training is $11,000.00. Scholarships will be awarded based on grades, community service and athletics.
For children on the spectrum, that may not be equipped to fly a plane, we know there is a place in the world for them. We will be establishing summer camps that will focus on aeronautics, design and engineering. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment and hopefully find future engineers and designers.
